Dead horse arum lily (Helicodiceros muscivorus), Corsica. This corpse flower gives off a pronounced scent of carrion that attracts blueflies and other pollinating insects, who will even lay their eggs in it. The dense rosette of stiff hairs in the spadix traps these insects, encouraging pollination. Its spectacular brown inflorescence resembles the anal region of a mammal corpse, with a hairy spadix that resembles the tail of a dead animal. Rare in Corsica, except on the Lavezzi Islands. The Lacinato kale are back in the garden after more than half a century of neglect. They are cultivated more for their decorative foliage than for their culinary interest. It is true that they grow without any fuss and they offer their beautiful foliage all winter long, unless an episode of intense cold comes along. Nevertheless, they are no less edible, especially after the first frosts that soften them. They are then eaten after being picked leaf by leaf, simply pan-fried or woked for Korean food lovers.
